Before you read any other guide
Palworld 1.0 revised the breeding rank of every returning Pal and added 73 new species. Any combo list, spreadsheet or calculator built before July 10 now returns wrong children — including most of the top Google results. Everything below is computed from the 1.0 game files (all 44,849 parent pairs regression-tested, zero mismatches), and we re-check after every patch.
Step 1 — Understand what decides the child
Every breedable Pal carries a hidden breeding rank. When two different species breed, the child is the Pal whose rank is closest to floor((rankA + rankB + 1) / 2). Three overrides matter:
- Exact ties go to the higher rank — a 1.0 change, and the single most common reason “updated” calculators still get pairs wrong.
- Unique combos — 136 fixed pairs ignore the formula entirely (full list).
- Same-species-only Pals — 26 species (legendaries, former tower bosses, select rares) can only come from two of themselves; the formula never produces them.
You never need to do this math by hand — the calculator resolves any pair, and every result carries a 1.0-verification badge.
Step 2 — Plan backwards from your target
Breeding efficiently means starting from the child, not the parents. The calculator has a tab for each situation:
- Target → Parents: every pair that produces your target, sorted so the most common parents come first.
- One Parent: lock in a Pal you already have and see what every partner gives you.
- Shortest Chain: the fewest breeding steps from a Pal you own to the Pal you want.
Just want the destination? The best-combos page lists the cheapest verified route to each of the strongest Pals in 1.0.
Step 3 — Manage passives before you mass-produce
The child rolls how many passives it inherits from the parents’ combined pool — 40/30/20/10 odds of pulling exactly 1/2/3/4 — so every junk passive on a parent dilutes your odds of getting the ones you want. The core discipline: breed passives onto your line one at a time, keep the combined pool clean, and only then chase IVs. Run your exact setup through the passive calculator to see the real odds before committing cake.
Step 4 — Let mutations work for you
New in 1.0: every egg rolls a mutation chance (~1% base, higher with better cakes). A mutated egg looks different in the farm and usually hatches into a stronger species — across all 77 logged player reports, the mutated species’ rank is never weaker than the pair’s normal child, and top-tier parents cap out at Aegidron. Mutated hatches arrive as Alphas with two stars, high IVs and rainbow passives — including, per two reports, Legend (what still gets you Legend in 1.0). Budget your egg runs with the mutation calculator; if you’re mass-breeding anyway, mutations are a free lottery ticket on every egg.
Step 5 — Know when a guide is lying to you
Quick smell test for any breeding content you find elsewhere: if it lists Anubis at rank 100 (now 139), shows tower bosses with unique recipes (removed in 1.0), or doesn’t mention mutations at all — it predates 1.0. When in doubt, check the pair in the calculator; if the game disagrees with us, report it and confirmed corrections go live same day.
