How to Get the Legend Passive in Palworld 1.0

The old cross-breeding trick is mostly gone. Here’s what the 1.0 table actually allows — and what 52 logged mutation reports add to the picture.

Where Legend comes from

Legend is the signature rainbow passive of the legendary Pals — Frostallion, Jetragon, Paladius, Necromus — which carry it when caught. Before 1.0, the standard play was to breed a legendary out of its own species: pass Legend down a cross-breeding chain until it landed on whatever Pal you were building.

What 1.0 changed

In the 1.0 table, all four legendaries are same-species-only as breeding targets, and so are the former tower bosses (Faleris, Shadowbeak, Grizzbolt, Orserk, Lyleen) plus newly added rares like Shaolong, Selyne and Panthalus — 26 Pals in total (full list). Their old unique recipes were removed, which closes the classic route in one specific direction: you can no longer breed Legend onto a same-species-only Pal. An Orserk can only come from two Orserk, and wild or tower Orserk never spawn with Legend — so no parent exists to inject it.

What still works in 1.0

1. Within-line stacking

Same-species pairs always produce the same species, and passives inherit normally (odds in the passive calculator). Two legendaries of the same species can pass Legend to their offspring while you stack IVs and other passives — the line just never leaves that species.

2. Cross-breeding a legendary as a parent

Same-species-only restricts what those Pals can be as a child. Used as a parent with another species, a legendary still resolves through the normal rank formula (check any pairing in the calculator), and Legend inherits like any other passive. So Legend on formula-reachable Pals is still possible the pre-1.0 way — it’s only the 26 same-species-only Pals that are cut off.

3. Mutation — two routes, one of them semi-reliable

Route A — fresh roll: two independent reports in our mutation log confirm that a mutated hatch can roll Legend — one Aegidron from a Frostallion Noct farm (twice in ~10 mutated eggs), one from mass-bred Jetragon. Legend is in the fresh-roll pool, but you can’t aim it: pure lottery.

Route B — inheritance (confirmed by two independent contributors): mutants can inherit rainbow passives directly from their parents, including Legend. One contributor’s Legend mutants always came from a Legend-carrying parent (with fewer fresh rainbow passives on those eggs); another logged Ghangler and Fenglope Lux mutants inheriting Legend and Sanctified Meat Shield from their parents. Practical build: put Legend on a breedable line the pre-1.0 way (section 2), run that pair at ~3% mutation odds with a Deluxe Veggie Cake, and every mutant has a real shot at carrying Legend into a species you couldn’t reach otherwise. Budget the run with the mutation calculator.

4. Surgery table — unconfirmed for Legend

1.0’s surgery table can transplant some passives between Pals (players in our thread report moving Philanthropist this way). Whether Legend is transplantable is unconfirmed — no verified report either way. If you’ve tested it, tell us and we’ll update this page.

Practical answer

Want Legend on a normal breedable Pal: breed from a legendary parent, same as before — plan the chain with the Target → Parents tab. Want Legend on Orserk, Shaolong, a tower boss, or any other same-species-only Pal: no deterministic method exists in 1.0. Farm mutations for the random roll, or wait for the surgery-table question to be settled. This page updates as soon as either changes.
